Board Chair

Tomoko Moriguchi-Matsuno, CEO, Uwajimaya Inc.

Uwajimaya is the largest family owned Asian grocery and gift company. Ms. Moriguchi-Matsuno graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and worked as a commercial artist for ten years before returning to the family business. She has served as a board member of the Bullitt Foundation, Seattle Children's Theatre, International District Review Board, International PDA, and the Learning Tree Montessori School, as chairman of the Seattle Keiron Nursing Home auctions and Ayame Kai Guild for Keiro Nursing home and as commissioner of the Asian Affairs Commission.

Karen Gates Hildt, Attorney at Law

Ms. Gates Hildt practices in public advocacy, estate planning, mediation, business negotiations and arbitration. She also serves as facilitator/consultant for public and private educational and cultural institutions in needs assessment, strategic planning, foundation development and planned giving. Ms. Gates Hildt was formerly the director of the Seattle Arts Commission.

Karl Bischoff, President at Phinney Bischoff Design House

Karl Bischoff started his professional career as a musician (jazz, blues, rock, avant garde). He started inventing music synthesizers and became an electronic design engineer in 1970. He returned to school to become a commercial photographer (architecture and travel) and then founded Bischoff and Associates, Inc. He went on to become President/Executive Producer of Studio AV, which specialized in multi-image slide productions, which then merged with Phinney Design to become Phinney/Bischoff Design House. PBDH is an independent, highly regarded brand design firm with offices in Seattle and Sun Valley, Idaho. Founded in 1982, PBDH offers world-class expertise in brand strategy, design, interactive and ideation. PBDH believes that great ideas in brand design come from inviting clients into the creative process. The firm is dedicated to bold and innovative work inspired by this transparent and inclusive approach to collaboration.

Dave Dederer, Hewlett Packard Personal Systems Group, Music & Entertainment/founding member, The Presidents of the United States of America

Dave is a member of the team building a next-generation, cloud-based personal media platform for HP, the world's largest technology company. The Presidents of the United States of America are a multi-platinum-selling, two-time Grammy-nominated musical group. Dave no longer tours with the band but continues to manage the band's business affairs. Dave's eclectic work history also includes stints in education and public affairs, including time with Seattle's Pyramid Communications.

Tom Douglas, Author, Chef

Mr. Douglas is a Seattle chef, restaurateur and writer. In 2001, The James Beard Foundation named Tom's book, Seattle Kitchen, Best Americana Cookbook. He received the honor of Best Northwest Chef in 1994. Tom also acts as consultant to Amazon, Macy's, Columbia Crest Wineries and CamWest Development. He has helped to define Northwest cuisine, starting with his first restaurant, Dahlia Lounge, which opened in 1989. This was followed by Etta's Seafood and Palace Kitchen, which was nominated for Best New Restaurant by the James Beard Foundation in 1996. More recently he opened a Greek restaurant, Lola, and the pizzeria Serious Pie. Mr. Douglas' seven Seattle restaurants are among the most widely loved by locals and visitors alike. He has also developed the "Rub with Love" product lin. of hand rubs, grilling sauces and snack mix, all of which are available in grocery stores.

Jerry T. Everard, Partner, Groff Murphy Lawyers

Mr. Everard practiced at Davis Wright Tremaine with Mr. Groff and Mr. Murphy before leaving with them to start Groff & Murphy. Mr. Everard has focused his practice on assisting entrepreneurs to meet the challenges of starting, running, financing and exiting their businesses, and assisting owners and developers in all phases of real estate transactions from acquisitions, through construction to leasing or resale.

In addition to practicing law, and serving on the Board of the Vera Project, Jerry is an active business owner and developer. He has created several successful gathering places, including the beloved Seattle music clubs Moe's Mo'Rockin Café, The Crocodile, and Neumos.

Rollin Fatland, Principle, Rollin Fatland and Associates

Rollin has worked in the region's political/public policy arena for 30 years. His career includes service on the Seattle City Council staff, five years as Assistant Seattle City Comptroller and seven years as Deputy King County Executive.

Rollin left government in 1993 to join a regional investment banking firm, where he focused on financing in the public sector. In 1995, Rollin was recruited by EvansGroup (now Publicis) to establish a public affairs division for that agency. He also served as Senior Vice President of Public Affairs for APCO Worldwide before launching his own practice in 2001.

He is on the Board of Directors for Pioneer Human Services and has served on the Boards of the Arboretum Foundation, Washington Conservation Voters, Alki Foundation (political arm of the Seattle Chamber of Commerce), Pacific Medical Center, King County Sexual Assault Resource Center and Cascade Land Conservancy Council of Advisors. He has also volunteered his expertise on many regional and statewide campaigns.

Anne (Fen) Fennessy, Partner, Cocker Fennessy

A principal member of well-known public affairs firm, Cocker Fennessy, Ms. Fennessy has years of experience advising public officials, business executives and others on effective communication and leadership. Her expertise covers the analysis of complex public policy matters, the design and oversight of strategies, and the construction of effective messages. Ms Fennessy formerly acted as Communications Director for Seattle Mayor, Charles Royer, for the Port of Seattle, and as Communications Director and Senior Policy Advisor to Washington Governor Mike Lowry.

Clayton Lewis, Partner, Maveron LLC

Clayton is passionate about helping people achieve their full potential, whether it is in business, politics or athletics. He joined Maveron in 2007, working with portfolio companies and Maveron operations. Lewis currently serves on the board of Kinetix Living. Lewis has an extensive background driving operations and a strong track record of returns, most recently serving as President and Chief Operating Officer of HouseValues, where he directed revenue growth in two years from $48 million to $98 million, while generating $35 million in net cash from operations. Prior to HouseValues, Lewis was part of the executive team that took Onvia public, raising $240 million and completing five acquisitions in less than two years. As President and Chief Operating Officer, Lewis revamped the company's strategy, transformed it from a business-to-business to a business-to-government model.

In addition to two decades of business management experience, Lewis held positions in national politics, serving on Capitol Hill and in several high profile campaigns. He holds a degree in Business from the University of Washington, where he was elected President of the Associated Students. Beyond his work in venture capital, Lewis has been very involved in supporting a number of community organizations, including serving on the board of trustees for Harborview Medical Center. Lewis is an avid athlete. He competes in triathlons and enjoys exploring remote countries by bike with his partner or scuba diving in warm waters.

Marty Riemer, Broadcaster

Marty Riemer is that rare broadcaster who has spent his entire career—thirty plus years—in one market, the best market, Seattle, WA. Starting in radio at the ripe age of 13, he went on to host shows at some of the city's greatest radio properties, from KZOK, KJR and KXRX to The Mountain. During that time, he also acquired a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Washington, launched an educational video production company and now hosts a live, daily podcast from his West Seattle basement. He also sits on the board of Operation: Sack Lunch, the largest outdoor meal provider for the homeless in Seattle.

Barbara Smith, President, Harris & Smith Public Affairs

Harris & Smith is a Seattle-based communications services and consulting firm. Ms. Smith also served as former public relations executive for two of Seattle’s largest advertising agencies, and previously worked for a U.S. Senator, for the state legislature and as a news reporter. Ms. Smith has extensive experience directing media relations with state, national and international media. Barbara is also an active member of the Seattle community. Though she cannot juggle, sing or dance, she is a lifelong Bumbershoot and Teatro ZinZanni fan.

Richard H. Stevenson, President and Chief Operating Officer for Clise Properties, Inc.

Clise Properties Inc. has been developing and managing commercial real estate properties in Seattle since 1890. Mr. Stevenson has worked in the real estate and property management field for over 25 years. Prior to Clise Properties, he was with Harbor Properties, Wright Runstad & Company and United Technologies Otis Elevator Co. His experience includes construction management, leasing and operations of high-rise office, residential and retail properties. Mr. Stevenson currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Downtown Seattle Association, the Downtown Emergency Services Center, housing Resources Group and the Building Owners & Managers Association (BOMA). He was previously President of BOMA.

Kelly E. Sweet, Client Advisor and VP/Laird Norton Tyee

Laird Norton Tyee is one of the Pacific Northwest’s largest privately held wealth management firms serving high-net-worth clients, including individuals, families, private foundations and nonprofit organizations, with investment stewardship, personal strategic planning, generation-to-generation wealth transfer and family and business governance. Ms. Sweet helped launch Tyee Asset Strategies (now Laird Norton Tyee) in 1995 and served as chief knowledge officer. Ms. Sweet previously worked as a tax and financial planner for Moss Adams. With 20 years experience in the financial advisory field, One Reel is fortunate to have her serving on the Audit Committee.
